this is me in the form of a portrait by my lovely friend Ethan Engeseth :)
The Story So Far
Hi hi, I’m Courtney. My roots are in the Midwest; I’m a Michigan girl. To be completely honest, Hermione Granger is where it all started for me. I am embarrassed to say how much time I dedicated to my Hermione impression in my elementary days. Since those days I have come to realize that acting demands much more of myself than an impression requires. Continually, I am striving to show up more fully and honestly within each new role. I recently received my BFA in Acting from Western Michigan University. My acting journey started in the theatre and since then I’ve had the opportunity to expand my experience to on camera work. I can officially say; I’ve outgrown the Midwest market and have found myself in Los Angeles (literally and figuratively).
My intention with my art is to explore the contradicting - sometimes scary - parts of being human so that hopefully I can help someone to feel less alone in the world. The kinds of characters that draw me in are messy ones in search of connection. This could be due to the fact that I relate to feeling like a chaotic person myself at times.
I am currently continuing my acting practice with Crash Acting - we call ourselves Rhinos - where I am working to develop my process as an artist.
In my spare time, these are the things that light me up: exploring abandoned buildings, reading in a coffee shop, hiking, jumping off piers, seeing the world, free listening, attempting to cook a new meal (keyword: attempt), and recently learning aerial yoga.
